A wonderful way to experience the joy of the season is to share it with someone else!
The Naperville Township Adopt-A-Family program matches generous donors/sponsors with needy families from our own community.
Low income families, whose identities are kept confidential, provide a Wish List with clothing and toy suggestions for each member. Sponsors have the choice to adopt one child, multiple children, or the entire family. Once sponsors have committed to adopting, they are then given the Wish List for their match. There is no dollar amount required for the program, we leave this up to the sponsor to determine how little, or how much, they are able to give (but for those who must have a number or an idea – think approximately $100 per individual). Detailed instructions are also provided with the Wish List.
Please contact Millie Rodriguez, 630.355.2786, at the Naperville Township Supervisor’s Office for more information, or if you have questions.
We start reaching out to sponsors in September. We need our sponsors to complete this form and return it to our office as soon as they can; but no later than November 8th. Our families will be registering during the month of October and the first 2 weeks of November. We then try to match the families and sponsors that we have received and get the information on the families out to the sponsors before Thanksgiving.
We always get late families and late sponsors so we try to continue to match them, as we receive them, into the beginning of December as we don’t want anyone to go without.
All families asking for help are screened as to income and need. We use 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (ex. Family of four - $3,138.00 gross/month or $37,656.00 gross/year) and each family has received some other type of assistance from us throughout the year, such as LIHEAP, Emergency Assistance with a utility or rent, Salvation Army emergency assistance funds, etc. We crosscheck our list with other organizations/agencies/churches to try and ensure that holiday help is not being given by more than one entity.
There is no dollar amount required for the program, we leave this up to the sponsor to determine how little, or how much, they are able to give. Sponsors have the choice to adopt one child, just the children in a household or the entire family. In the past, we have had sponsors who range from providing a few items per individual adopted to sponsors who have provided for everyone adopted, plus household needs and food items for a holiday meal. For budgeting purposes, it may help to approximate about $100 per person.
This is the sponsor’s choice. The families are aware that only the children under 18 are guaranteed adoption if chosen. The sponsor must specify if they are interested in just children or families. In addition to the child’s list, the families will specify on their forms if they have household needs or just individual needs per adult.
Yes. We accept special requests and will try our best to match these requests to our registered families. We have seen requests for households with younger children, older children, specific school districts, single parent households, households with pets, etc.
If you know you would like to be a sponsor, please fully complete the Sponsor Form provided on the Naperville Township website under the Adopt-A-Family link and return it to Millie Rodriguez by November 8th, 2019.

This year we will be aiming to get all information, to the sponsors we were able to match, by November 22nd, 2019.
Sponsors will not need to contact the family to let them know they have been adopted. The Township will contact them and let them know they have been adopted and when to pick up their gifts. If you are delivering directly to the family, we will contact them to let them know they have been adopted and to expect a call from their sponsor for delivery.
Once you are matched with your adoptee, a list is provided as a guide of their needs, preferences, sizes; a wish list of sorts. The list is provided only as a guide and ideas, the sponsor doesn’t have to get everything on the list. Other gift giving ideas are gift certificates or gift cards for stores, shoes, movies, bowling, roller-skating or restaurants, especially for older children. Used items such as bicycles are acceptable if they are in good condition.
